Edward Eugene Kopszywa and Mary Agnes Misorna-Kopszywa, both Polish immigrants, met in Baltimore, Maryland. They relocated to Biloxi in the early 1900's. Edward purchased the family home on Oak Street in 1929 where they raised six sons and two daughters. All six of their sons worked on shrimp boats as Edward Sr. worked on the first schooners. Edward purchased property on the Back Bay of Biloxi where he opened a grocery store on one side and a local hangout called "Fisherman's Hangout" on the other side. Edward owned the 'Miss Poland' and the 'Anna Leona' where he served as captain. Their son, Stanley J. Kopszywa, was born on May 8, 1920. He served in the Army for several years. After his time in the military, he returned home to Biloxi to work on shrimp boats for factories. He later purchased his own shrimp boat, the 'Ann Gay', where he served as captain. After many years, he became captain of a smaller boat which was a lafitte skiff. Stanley, also patched and made nets. Stanley passed away on June 14, 1969. Stanley's two sons, Stanley "Wayne" Kopszywa and Michael Lawrence Kopszywa, both worked in the shrimping industry. Wayne owned and operated the 'Glenn Robert, ' Miss Tish, 'Bandit', 'Janice Lynn', and the 'Captain Wayne' Michael owned and served as captain of the 'Maldermer', 'Cheryl Lynn', 'Michael Jr.', 'Critter Gitter' and the 'Michelle Dawn'.
Stanley's Eldest granddaughter Stacey McGuire Senseney, was the first to win Shrimp Queen in the Kopszywa family, Stacey's two sisters Gretchen Waaga Richert won in 1993, and Victoria "Tori" Felsher in 2000.
In addition, Stanley's brothers, Edward Jr. "Cotten, Frank, Henry, and Walter, all worked in the shrimping industry. Edward owned the 'Captain Roy', Frank Sr. owned the 'Cell- Jerry'. Frank's son Johnny, owned the 'Mr. Phil.' Johnny's son John owns and operates the 'Barbara K', and Henry owns the 'Captain Henry'. Henry also owned a seafood shop in Biloxi's Point Cadet where he served shrimp, crabs, and sacked oysters. Henry's son, "Rookie" owned and operated the 'Captain Henry', 'David & Chris', and the 'Carolyn Marie'. His son Mark, owns and operates the 'Renigade' shrimp boat as well. Walter, owned the 'Linda Kay' and his son, Richard, owns and continues to operate the 'Linda Kay'.
Nathan his son owns and operates the 'Captain Avery', Leona the eldest daughter of Edward Sr. married Jack Gazzo, and their son Thomas owned and operated the 'CathyG', and was Shrimp King in 2004. Leona's great granddaughter Mallory Gilson, won 'Shrimp Queen' in 2011. Anna, youngest daughter of Edward Sr. married Joseph Smolcich, known as, "Smokie Joe" who operated the 'Joan Fayard', and the 'Margaret Ann'. Shrimping ran through their veins and everyone, in the family is proud of their heritage, also proud of living on Pointe Cadet as all of the children and family members.
